Rocking it all the way on Sauvignon Blanc Day

– News Article

It’s #InternationalSauvignonBlancDay2020 and we’re rolling out the red carpet for two of our most popular expressions of this versatile cultivar.

Tangy and lipsmackingly delicious, Sauvignon Blanc has to be the ultimate summer wine, but it’s also a hit on warm autumn or winter days! Its aroma can be like a highveld thunderstorm with that flinty, grassy smell – but as refreshing as the drops of water hitting the hot earth in its bright, zingy lemon, kumquat flavour and acidity. That balance of acid vibrance with the fruit, and the riper tropical granadilla notes, is what makes it one of the most popular wine styles around. What’s more, it can be expressed in different ways, depending on treatment in the cellar.

Take our The Winemasters Sauvignon Blanc. Lively, refreshing and crisp with dusty flint, lemon zest and marmalade flavours. Its vivacious acidity is balanced by the juicy fruit with some granadilla and tropical notes.

On the other hand, consider our Heritage Heroes The Young Airhawk, a barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc. A wine that’s bold with big grapefruit peel, gravel and flint aromas. Crisp, dry and yet succulently tangy. Although gently wooded, the oak adds structure and body with a lingering finish.

Both wines are a great match with dishes such as fresh fish and seafood, summer salads, chicken, veal, goat’s cheese and vegetables.

Looking for some recipes to try with one or both of these wines? Our winemakers suggest enjoying The Winemasters Sauvignon Blanc with this delicious fish cakes recipe by none other than the fabulous Abigail Donnelly; while our Heritage Heroes The Young Airhawk, makes for a great match with red wine caramelised onions and goat’s cheese tartlets. Try this recipe by Sam Linsell.
