The Manor House, the home of our original winemaker. Beautifully proportioned, it features yellowwood shutters, beams and doors, and Batavian floor tiles. Most of the materials had to be transported from Cape Town, today less than an hour’s drive today, but back then every journey would have taken two days at least by cart. Built next to a little stream, sun-dried bricks bound with clay mortar were used to build the elegant gable with swan-like curves. A broad stoep and cascading oak trees encircled the house.
Sadly, Margaretha passed away just before the Manor House was complete, leaving Wolvaart alone in his pride.
